• Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) (details)

  EPEAT is a system that helps purchasers evaluate, compare and select electronic products based on their environmental attributes. The system currently covers desktop and laptop computers, thin clients, workstations and computer monitors.

  Desktops, laptops and monitors that meet 23 required environmental performance criteria may be registered in EPEAT by their manufacturers in 40 countries worldwide. Registered products are rated Gold, Silver or Bronze depending on the percentage of 28 optional criteria they meet above the baseline criteria. EPEAT operates an ongoing verification program to assure the credibility of the registry.

• Brand Data Management System (BDMS) (details)

  The Brand Data Management System (BDMS) was developed by the National Center for Electronics Recycling (NCER) as of part of the MARCEE Project, and the National Electronics Recycling Infrastructure Clearinghouse – a joint project with the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

  The goal of the BDMS is to allow all stakeholders interested in emerging electronics recycling systems in the US the opportunity to view and customize brand return share reports from across the country. With this database, the NCER has compiled the known electronics brand count studies (referred to on this site as “data sources”), and will be adding more as they become available. Implementation of electronics recycling laws in Maine and Washington utilizes these and similar data to determine manufacturer recycling obligations in those states.

  The BDMS allows for the management and sorting of the hundreds of different brands reported by recent brand return studies in order to gain a more detailed comparison of trends such as variations in brand return share in different regions, brand ranking trended over time (including changes of top brands collected), and the number of officially designated orphan brands. Currently the BDMS includes monitors, TVs, desktop computers and laptop computers in its scope of products. Here are few reports that can be generated by the BDMS.

  • The top brands returns across all studies, by units, for desktop computers
  • The total number of brands counted in the Florida brand count
  • The ranking of brands by weight across all product categories across all studies

• Manufacturer State Registration Application (MSRA) (details)
  

  The Manufacturer State Registration Application is a central location for electronics manufacturers to register their company with the states that have enacted e-waste legislation. This application guides manufacturers through each of the varying state-by-state requirements, asking them to provide certain information about their company and products, as well as other reporting requirements.

  The Manufacturer State Registration Application (MSRA) also enables the state agency representatives in charge of implementing each of their state's e-waste laws to log-in and control what type of information is required of the manufacturers who are registering in their state.

  The goal of the MSRA is to simplify the registration process for manufacturers and give them one central place to view the requirements concerning registration under electronics recycling laws in each state. It is also intended to simplify the process for state agency representatatives responsible for implementing electronics recycling laws by consolidating various duplicated registration forms, and decreasing the time and effort on the part of each state to track down the appropriate manufacturer contact.

• Oregon State Contractor Program (details)

  The Oregon application provides data collection and reporting for the statewide collection, transportation, and recycling services for Oregon consumers for televisions, desktops computers, laptops and computer monitors. The Oregon State Contractor Program collects covered electronic products at no cost to consumers in every county and city in Oregon with a population greater than 10,000. The electronics are then transported and recycled.
